Who Is ELEOS?
ELEOS is a registered non-profit, and public benefit organization. Since 1998, Eleos has been supporting communities in Pretoria West. We uphold strong Christian values and aid underprivileged children and families through our groups and programmes. We believe in empowering the community to be able to support themselves.
Our Mission
Eleos strives to show love and compassion to a needy community by paying attention to the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of their wellbeing. Our main goal is to care for and empower underprivileged children and their families through early intervention. All our social development programmes are aimed at acquiring the necessary skills to bring about change and a better future. Eleos builds relationships, regardless of race and culture. Eleos is a faith based NPO and upholds Christian values. We focus on prevention, primary care, and community upliftment.
A Bit Of History
Eleos is a Greek word that means MERCY IN ACTION. Mercy is what a group of women started sharing in August 1998. These women visited a playgroup in Booysens – Pretoria West. The desperate need and struggle of the children touched the women in such a way that they immediately decided to get actively involved. Not only did they realise how many families lived in dire need of basic items, but also that social upliftment and ongoing projects were needed to make a difference in these children’s lives. Over the years, various community projects were launched, focusing on whole, healthy families. A Community Centre in Wilhelm Street (today called House of Grace), and an Early Childhood Development Centre in Market Street (better known as House of Hope) soon became beacons of hope for many destitute families. Three After School Care facilities have also seen the light in close vicinity to the primary schools.
Our Community
Eleos serves the community in the Booysens/Claremont areas in Pretoria West. Most in this community battle to obtain the necessities because of financial struggles, as well as physical, emotional and mental challenges.
